Overview
Green Island is a left-hand point that peels over uneven reef out at the southwest tip of the island. Getting there is a long walk and an even longer paddle across the Shark Pit, but the payoff is a long, sectiony, walled-up left that bends down the point and suits longboarders nicely.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), and it comes into its own on east swell. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and a moderate to big NE-to-S swell is what really lights it up, sending through long, slow-peeling walls.
Wind and Tide
Offshore winds come from the north, and this is one of the rare setups that stays clean through summer. It breaks across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave is best suited to intermediate surfers. Because it holds up when little else is offshore in summer, expect a busy lineup when it's working.
Access
Access is via the legendary Dons Cabins overlooking the island, but pack mosquito repellent. You'll find restrooms and camping, along with a car park with free parking and roadside parking.
