Guacuco is a wide-open beach break running along a 5 km stretch of sand close to town. It picks up plenty of swell and often comes in messy, with lines of whitewash rolling through, which makes it a natural home for the local surf school. The payoff is fun, easy waves without the crowd of stronger surfers who head up the coast.
When It Works
Breaking over sand, Guacuco pulls in swell from northeast through east, with northeast (NE) the best direction. It's moderately consistent and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, serving up both lefts and rights along the beach.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean things up. The beach works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is beginner-friendly terrain, ideal if you're finding your feet in the water. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you'll usually have room to catch waves at your own pace.
Access
Escuela De Surf Guacuco Roots runs lessons and rentals right at the beach. For parking, there's a car park with free parking as well as roadside spots.
