Overview
Guns is the premier wave of the area, a powerful left that reels along an uneven reef further south toward Walvisbaai.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west (S-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. Classic long walls line up on a moderate west swell or a big southwest swell, and the wave works from 1.5 m / 5 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. It holds sizeable surf when everywhere else is maxed out, which makes it a rare option on the biggest days. Expect moderately consistent conditions.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind. Guns is best from low to mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, and long, heavy walls over an uneven reef reward experience and commitment. The lineup stays fairly quiet when it fires.
