Hammond's surf guide

Hammond's is a well-known surf spot located in the upscale area of Montecito. It's a classic righthand cobblestone reef break that attracts many surfers looking for a solid wave. While it can get crowded, the waves here are worth it, especially on a good day. You can easily access the spot by walking up from the small parking area at Miramar Beach or Eucalyptus Lane.

The waves at Hammond's work best on medium tides with clean west swells. It handles swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters), but also has the capacity to take on bigger swells. You can expect well-shaped, lined-up waves with some punchy sections. The optimal swell direction is from the west, but it can handle swells coming from the southwest and northwest as well. The break generally offers right waves, with some occasional lefts, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. Ideally, a northeast wind will complement your session here.

Since it’s a consistent spot, it’s not unusual to find plenty of fellow surfers out in the water. Keep in mind that the crowd can sometimes take away from the experience, especially when you’re looking for a bit of space. Regardless, Hammond's remains a staple for those who know how to navigate its waves.
