Haqal is a right-hand point on Masirah's southeast-facing coast, hugging the rocks to produce a juicy righthander that breaks over uneven reef. This stretch of coast holds at least eight potential righthand points and usually runs about twice the size of the Jazirah area, so there's plenty of quality when the swell lines up.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so you'll want to time your visit to a decent pulse rather than count on it every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind, and get on it early: this coast tends to blow out from around 10am onward, so the morning session is the window. The wave works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call, and it improves noticeably as it fills in toward high tide.
Local Tips
Haqal suits intermediate surfers comfortable reading a righthand point over reef. Expect a quiet lineup, so there's room to find your own peak.
