Overview
Hartlepool to Sunderland covers a run of beachbreaks along the coast, anchored by a standout wedging right that peels off the harbour wall in Roker. Alongside it sits a spread of dependable beachbreak peaks at Roker, Seaburn and Whitburn, all breaking over sand and offering both lefts and rights.
When It Works
The waves here draw swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), with an east swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, giving you plenty of scope from smaller days right up to solid, heavier surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest offshore wind to clean things up. The beaches come alive on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Access
Park along the coast road, where roadside parking is easy to come by, and you'll find restrooms on hand. For anything more, Sunderland has facilities close by.
