Hebara surf guide

Hebara is a popular surf spot located in a stretch of coastline that features four different breaks within a 1km area. It's mostly a beach/reef setup that attracts surfers looking for some decent waves. The area is known to cater to a range of abilities, but it’s best suited for intermediate surfers. With a big parking area, getting to the beach is easy, making it accessible for a lot of people. Accommodations and facilities are available nearby, which supports the vibrant surf culture here.

The surf at Hebara is consistent, working well with NE-SE swells, and it can handle sizes starting from 2ft (about 0.6 meters). The breaks can vary between lefts and rights, which keeps things interesting. The main spots include Kuso Shita at the north end, where there’s a shifty peak below the cliffs. Main Peak delivers longer walls and occasional barrels on bigger days, while Obachans is a mellower option that breaks closer to the beach. Down at the south corner, Shinga handles S winds and is a bit of a walk, which helps to reduce the crowds. The preferred wind direction is from the west, and all breaks work well on low, mid, and high tides, giving you plenty of options depending on the conditions.

Hebara’s mix of wave types includes both beach and reef breaks, allowing for a diverse surfing experience. The uneven reef and sand make for some interesting wave rides, but surfers should be mindful of making the most out of the available conditions. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those wanting a good session without the crazy crowds.

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
  • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.

Forecast Cheat Sheet

Short on time? Focus on wave energy. It’s the best single metric to gauge how big and powerful the waves will be.

Click any table cell to jump to that forecast hour. The map will update with forecast arrows, so you can see if wind and swell direction are lining up.

Use the table sidebar to switch units for height and speed.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Surf Predictions

Our AI-driven algorithm scores surf quality, shown by green, orange, and gray dots. Each forecast hour is rated for wind, swell, and tide quality, then combined into an overall score. Here’s the scale:

Perfect
Good
Average
Bad or No Data

Session logs also feed the algorithm — the more you log, the smarter your forecasts get.
