Hollyoake is a sand-bottomed left that peels long and punchy when it lines up. It breaks over sand and reliably shows up, so it holds swell more often than not.
When It Works
An east or northeast swell is what you want here, with northeast (NE) the best direction. On those swells the wave runs long and punchy, hollow off the take-off and through sections down the line. Anything from the south or southeast tends to close out. The spot draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S) and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind to clean it up. It works through low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call, and a low incoming push is best of all.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly left, but it comes with a strong north-to-south drift that keeps you paddling to hold the tight take-off zone. Expect a busy lineup of dialed-in locals when it works. Entering on the north side of the jetty and walking back up after each wave helps spread the crowd off the concentrated peak.
Access
There's a surf shop nearby and lifeguards on hand. Parking is a mix of free, paid, and roadside spots, but the residential roadside options are limited and patrolled heavily by police, so give it some thought before you leave the car. Tags are only loosely enforced by lenient lifeguards who surf themselves.
