Overview
Honuapo Bay is a left-hand point that peels down a base of jumbled lava rocks and black sand. The wave breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, tucked right beside Whittington Beach Park.
When It Works
The left comes alive on bigger swells, drawing energy from the east-to-south window with southeast (SE) the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it wants some size before it really turns on. Consistency is on the quieter side, so catching it dialed in can take a bit of patience.
Wind and Tide
This one needs plenty of north in the wind to hold its shape, so look for a north (N) offshore before you paddle out; without it, the bay tends to turn messy. It can work across low, mid, and high water, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
There's real power in the wave, but confident intermediates should cope with it just fine. The lineup rarely gets crowded, so you can usually find plenty of room to yourself.
Access
Getting here is easy, with the Hawaii Belt Road running close to the bay. You'll find free roadside parking nearby.
