Hornitos is a sandy beach break at a popular coastal resort in Chile, with a long stretch of shoreline that peels both left and right. It is known as the warmest spot around, drawing beach-goers year round and giving beginners and improvers plenty of easy water time.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. Breaking over sand, it is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. The long beach serves up good short rides for learners, at its best when the wind stays light and the tide is not too high. For more shelter, head toward the southern cliffs; for more size, go around to Playa Itata. Expect moderately consistent conditions.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It works through low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly beginner beach break with plenty of room to log water time. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is working.
