Inubosaki Lighthouse surf guide

Inubosaki Lighthouse is located at the northern end of the Chiba peninsula in Choshi, which is known for being a fishing town. The area around the lighthouse features some beach and reef breaks that can come alive under the right conditions. This spot is best enjoyed with lower swell and wind, offering a fairly straightforward experience for surfers looking to ride some waves without too much hassle.

The surf here can be quite varied depending on the swell direction and conditions. The optimal swell direction is from the east, but it can also handle swells coming from the northeast and south. Wave heights can work well from around 1 ft (0.3 meters) and can produce both left and right-hand beach breaks. Low to mid tide works best, but you can also surf at high tide. The wind from the west is more favorable for cleaner waves. Intermediate surfers will find this spot manageable, but it can become challenging with bigger swells.

As for access, there are only a few entry points along the clifftop coast road towards Iioka. While the beachbreak can be powerful at times, producing some barrels, conditions can be unpredictable. It’s a good idea to check the surf reports before heading out to ensure you catch the waves at their best.
