Irno is a sand-bottomed river-mouth right-hander in the centre of Salerno, where the Irno river meets the sea. It peels as long, easy righthanders, which makes it a friendly option for beginners. Water quality here is very poor, so it is worth keeping that in mind before paddling out.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), and it comes to life on west and northwest swells. Northwest (NW) is the best direction, lining up those long right walls. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind, since any onshore wind shuts the spot down. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly wave, so it suits surfers still finding their feet on mellow rights. Expect a busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
You will find the break right in the centre of Salerno at the river mouth. Fly Surf and Sun City Surf Shop are nearby for gear and local info. Parking is free, with roadside spots close to the beach.
