Isla Montuosa is located just west of the well-known fishing and diving spot at the Hannibal Bank. This secluded spot is surrounded by jungle and is a peak that catches plenty of swell from way offshore. It's a place where surfers can find some solitude, away from the crowded breaks. While the setting is beautiful, it’s not the most accessible location, so be prepared for a bit of adventure.
The surf here can be pretty solid, especially with the optimal swell coming from the southwest. It handles swell sizes starting from around 3ft (approximately 1 meter) and can go much bigger. The waves break over an uneven reef, creating right-handers that run along the western rocky shoreline. For the best experience, it’s recommended to hit the water on a low to mid tide, with the ideal wind coming from the northeast. Keep in mind, this spot is best suited for expert surfers, as the waves can get pretty challenging.
While surfing at Isla Montuosa, you'll quickly notice that it's not a beginner-friendly area. The spot calls for surfers who are comfortable tackling serious waves in a remote setting. If you're looking for a connection with nature and a chance to ride some solid waves away from the masses, this is a place to consider.
