Iwaya surf guide

Iwaya is located near the lighthouse at Tominohana. It’s a beachbreak that’s known for being a decent spot when the conditions line up right. It’s not the most legendary surf spot out there, but it offers some fun waves, especially when it’s working. Convenient features like parking, toilets, and showers make it a user-friendly choice for surfers looking to spend a day at the beach.

This spot really shines with a north-west swell direction, but it can also handle swells from the west and north-east. Iwaya works well with swell sizes around 1 ft (about 0.3 m), making it a nice option for beginners. The waves break over sand and come in both left and right directions. You’ll want to hit it during low, mid, or high tide, and the wind from the south-east usually helps to make the waves better.

If you surf on the weekends, expect a medium crowd, especially when the conditions are good. It's a great spot for newer surfers to practice and improve their skills without the pressure of more experienced surfers. Just be prepared for a bit of company if you choose to surf here when the waves are on!
