Overview
Jacob's Bay is a reef break tucked into the middle of the bay it's named for, peeling over an uneven, kelpy reef. It throws both lefts and rights and suits intermediate surfers looking for a step up from the beachbreaks.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from southwest through west, with a southwest swell the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and the standout sessions come on overhead swells that let the reef hold clean peaks. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to wait for the right window to line up. When the swell drops off, the beachbreak at Swartriet Beach Resort is a fee-paying alternative for smaller days.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind and light conditions to clean it up. The reef really comes alive at high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly reef rather than a beginner spot. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
