Overview
Jennette's Pier is a sand-bottomed pier break that peels both left and right. The original pier was destroyed by Hurricane Isabel in 2003 and rebuilt out to 1,000 feet, and it can handle some size.
When It Works
There's a full swell window here, picking up swell from south through north, with northeast (NE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. The waves work through all tides, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The lineup tends to be less crowded than the other nearby piers, though the waves here often lack quality.
Access
The pier is owned and operated by the NC Aquarium System as an educational fishing pier, so the distance-from-pier rules are enforced. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and a surf shop, with a car park offering free parking.
