Juan Tornillo is a west-facing beach break sitting about 5km north of Cabo Corientes. It catches all the west swell coming through and can handle a bit of size, with waves breaking over a mix of rock ledge and sand and peeling both left and right.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southwest through west, and it comes alive best on a southwest (SW) swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there is plenty of room between the smaller days and the bigger ones. Being a consistent spot, it tends to have rideable waves more often than not.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean things up. The beach can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable reading a beach break. Expect a fairly quiet lineup, so you should have space to find your own peak.
Access
Getting here is boat only, and it is a long boat ride out from the hotels, so plan the trip with that in mind.
