Overview
K.O.A is a sand-bottomed beach break with hollow, powerful waves. The outside sandbar delivers the main punch, and it handles size well.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from south through north (S-N), with southeast (SE) the best direction. Peaks break both left and right, and it stays consistent across a working range of 0.6 m / 2 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call as the inside reforms fill in.
Local Tips
The outside can throw serious power, but it still holds up as a beginner-friendly wave. The lineup only gets busy some of the time, since access is difficult unless you are camping at the KOA Kampground.
Access
There is no public parking here, so getting in is easiest if you are staying on site. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and camping.
