Kalim is a right-hand reefbreak on Phuket that peels over shallow dead coral, with an occasional left thrown in. It comes into its own when the surf is too big everywhere else, making it one of the more reliable options on the island in those conditions. The ride runs roughly 50-100 m (165-330 ft) and gets very shallow toward the end, so it suits intermediate to experienced surfers only.
When It Works
Kalim draws swell from southwest through west (SW-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and stays moderately consistent through the season, giving you a fair number of workable days when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the east (E). The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call, with mid incoming tide usually the pick.
Local Tips
This is a wave for confident, experienced surfers given the shallow coral and fast finish. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, though the vibe in the water tends to stay friendly even when it fills up.
