Surf: To hike the Puna Coast trail, first register with the Kilauea Visitor Center, in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, then hike the 7miles down to the coast on the Keauhou trail. On big S or SE swells, Keauhou Point holds long, walled-up lefts, or other peaks like Halape and Apua (where there is a backcountry campsite) might work if it’s big enough. Rivers of lava hit the coast, giving you a clue a to what the bottom is like. Environment: Incredible scenery.
