Kiritihere surf guide

Kiritihere is a surf spot located at the mouth of the Marokopa River on the west coast of Waikato, not too far from Taharoa and south of Kawhia Harbour. The beach is known for its sectiony left point break, which can provide some decent surf when conditions line up right. It's a bit of a drive from Hamilton, so make sure you're prepared for a day out.

The waves at Kiritihere work best with a southwest swell, but it can also handle northwest swells. It generally breaks over uneven reef and sand, which can create some powerful waves, especially at higher tides. You can expect to catch waves in the 2ft (approximately 0.6 meters) range, but when the swell's up, it gets more intense. This spot is mainly good for intermediate surfers, so it's ideal for those looking to push their skills a bit. An east wind is preferable for the best conditions to enjoy the surf here.

Both Kiritihere and the nearby Marokopa Beach can deliver some solid beach breaks, especially when the wind isn't messing things up. It's always a good idea to check the forecast before heading out, as conditions can change quickly. Make sure to keep an eye on the tides, too, since they can really affect how the waves break.
