Overview
Kite Beach is an outer reef A-frame that peels both left and right over uneven reef, with the rights the standout. Reaching it means a committing 15-minute paddle, leaving it well outside the calm inner water where you'll often find plenty of SUPers. The break sits within Cabarete Bay, an official stop on the Kitesurfing World Tour.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from north through east, with north (N) swell the best match, and it's built for the biggest north to northeast swells. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft and is only moderately consistent, so the good windows are worth timing.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. You'll usually be alone out the back, and there's some current to contend with, so keep yourself lined up with the takeoff. The lineup stays fairly quiet until the kiteboarders come flying down the bay around midday. Strong paddlers only.
Access
There's free parking alongside roadside parking. Facilities cover restrooms, a lifeguard, camping, and both a surf school and a surf shop.
