Kogalla surf guide

Kogalla is located a bit further east, known for its scenic surroundings and two upscale hotels nearby. The spot creates a nice atmosphere for surfers looking to catch some waves. It features a reef break that can be a decent option when the conditions are right, but you'll need to be mindful as it doesn't pick up as much swell compared to other spots in the area.

The optimal swell direction for Kogalla is from the southwest, with usable swell directions coming from the south and southwest. This spot can handle swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters), making it suitable for days when the surf is smaller. The waves here are primarily lefts, breaking over a dead coral reef. Experienced surfers will find a bit more challenge, especially when conditions align with a preferable north wind and any tide height—low, mid, or high.

Surfers should take care around the reef, as it can be covered with urchins, making wipeouts potentially painful. Even though Kogalla isn't the most consistent break around, it’s worth checking out, especially when the swell is right.
