L'Aubraie is a reef break with several peaks breaking over fingers of reef. The short, hollow lefts are the real draw and are consistently better than the rights. Sharp rocks line most of the setup, with only the poor beachbreak section free of them.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through northwest (SW-NW), with a west swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it picks up swell reliably, so there's usually something to ride. Expect left-breaking waves that run shorter and hollow on lower water and turn longer and softer as the tide fills in.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. As the water comes up the waves get longer and softer, and the reef itself prefers high tide, when the beach can turn into shoredump with backwash.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup gets busy when it's on. Out of season, with the summer-only campsite closed, you'll usually find just a few locals out.
Access
There's no dedicated car park, so plan on a long walk in from roadside parking, which is free.
