L’Horizon surf guide

L’Horizon is one of the lesser-known spots on the peninsula, offering a semi-secret wave that can surprise surfers on a good day. It's accessible for those coming from Arcachon, where you can take the pinnace across the basin and hop on the tramway that brings you right to the beach. With a few access points along the way, you'll find markers to help gauge the currents flowing from north to south. Just keep an eye out for the old bunkers and eroded jetties that can shape the coastline and create some big scallops.

The surf here is generally best with peaky, summer swells coming from the west, especially on smaller, lower tides. The spot can handle swell sizes starting from about 1ft (0.3m) and works well with swell directions from the southwest and northwest. You can expect beach breaks that peel both left and right, bringing some fun options for riders. The ideal wind direction is from the east, and the beach can accommodate surfers at low, mid, and high tide; however, it’s really more suited for those with intermediate skills.

While facilities are decent at a few access points, keep in mind that conditions can change quickly. The waves can get bigger with rising tides, and rips can become more challenging, making it less suitable for beginners. If you know what you're doing, though, L’Horizon can be a nice spot to catch some waves without dealing with a crowded peak.
