La Barqueta surf guide

La Barqueta is a south-facing beach located about 22km west of David. It has a flat, exposed strand that’s pretty laid-back, making it a decent spot for surfers looking for a mellow day. Just head towards the "Las Olas Beach Resort" signs, and you’ll be on fully paved roads the whole way. You'll likely find yourself with plenty of space, as it's usually not crowded.

The surf at La Barqueta tends to work best with swells coming from the Southeast or West. It can handle small waves, typically around 1ft (0.3 meters), and breaks over sand, making it a beach break. The waves can go left or right, but you’ll want to catch them at mid to high tide for the best experience. On a good day, the waves can be a bit dumpy and powerful, but they really need a little shape in the sandbars to be anything special. It's also beginner-friendly, so if you're just starting out, this spot could be a good fit.

Keep in mind that the conditions can change quickly, and rips may swirl around, so be aware of your surroundings while you're out there. The wind from the north is preferred, so try to catch the surf early to avoid any chop that can arise later in the day. Overall, La Barqueta has its moments and is worth checking out if you’re in the area.
