Overview
La Brava is a beach break that peels both left and right over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It sits at the smaller end of the local spots, and the rocks along the north side of the bay can hold some tidy little rights. A similar, bigger-wave spot called La Capilla lies about 4 km south of town, and the road out there passes Playa Brava and Arenillas Negras, two beachbreaks that favour rights.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest, with a southwest (SW) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and stays moderately consistent, so it's worth a look, especially for beginners after a bit of fun in the sandier shorebreak.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. La Brava can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It's an approachable, beginner-friendly wave, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet.
