La Côte Sauvage Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

La Côte Sauvage packs some of Brittany's best surf into a single 2 km stretch, with hollow, powerful waves breaking both left and right over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It's really a run of separate peaks: Port-Blanc is the first bay and picks up some shelter from a cliff, Port Marie breaks far offshore, Port-Rhu is a well-defined, localised peak, and Port-Bara is the more accessible of the bunch.

When It Works

The coast draws swell from southwest through west, with west (W) the best direction, and it's a consistent setup that keeps producing waves. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and handles real size, though the waves and rips turn punishing as it grows. When a west-southwest swell lines up with an east wind, expect top-to-bottom, hard-breathing barrels.

Wind and Tide

Look for east (E) offshore wind. The waves work on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Large clusters of rock start to affect the line-up at higher tides, so plan to get out before dead high.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate-level stretch, and the lineup runs busy, especially on weekends. Of the peaks, Port-Blanc tends to draw the biggest crowd thanks to its wind shelter.

Access

There are restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop nearby. Parking is straightforward, with a car park offering free parking alongside roadside spots.
