Overview
La Mojonera is a left-hand reef break in Murcia, sitting just to the right of the beach at El Mojón. It is probably the best wave in the region, though fickle winds mean it rarely fires. When everything lines up, a vertical takeoff drops into a wall and then a faster, hollower section, and the bigger it gets, the longer the wave runs.
When It Works
The wave breaks over an uneven reef and draws swell from east to south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the best match. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and the extra size pays off here since the wave lengthens as the swell builds.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind, the missing piece that keeps this spot from firing more often. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-level wave, so it rewards surfers who are comfortable with a steep takeoff and a quick, hollow section. Expect a crowded lineup when it turns on.
