La Olla surf guide

La Olla is a surf spot located in the heart of town, making it easily accessible for surfers. It can get pretty crowded, but you can usually find a chill vibe among the surfers. The surf here caters mainly to beginner and intermediate surfers, making it a popular choice for those looking to have fun on the water.

The best swell direction for La Olla is from the east, and it works well with swell sizes starting from 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). It breaks over an uneven reef and some sandy spots, producing left waves that can be a nice ride. The preferable wind direction is from the northwest, and it can handle various tide heights, whether it’s low, mid, or high. While it offers a decent left wall, it may become challenging for less experienced surfers when the conditions grow in size.

The beach also has some sections like Playa Brava that might throw up a hollow beach break on occasion, but generally, the long beach lacks good sandbars for consistent waves. If you’re planning to paddle out, you might want to consider using a longer, thicker board, especially if you're still improving your skills.
