La Virgen surf guide

La Virgen is a surf spot located around the rocky southern point from El Amir. It’s known for its challenging lefts that break over an uneven reef. This spot can provide some decent action, but it definitely requires skill and confidence. With access through a mix of sharp rocks and currents, it’s not the easiest place to get to, so be prepared if you decide to check it out.

The waves here are best with an east swell, but it can also pick up swells from the southeast. La Virgen can handle sizes around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters) and is known for its rumbling walls and potential barrels on the drop. This spot features primarily left-breaking waves, making it a unique choice for surfers looking to tune their skills on that side. For optimal conditions, a northwest wind is preferred and the tides can range from low to high, allowing for some flexibility in when to hit the water. Just keep in mind that this wave is meant for experts only, so make sure you feel ready before jumping in.

One thing to remember is that La Virgen is less consistent than other beaches to the north, which means it can get crowded when it’s firing. Surfers are likely to gather here when the conditions are just right, especially given its location in front of the Virgen Mary statue. If you’re up for a little adventure and are looking for a challenge, La Virgen might just be worth your time.
