La Speranza is a top-quality right-hand pointbreak that peels over an uneven reef in a pristine bay south of Alghero. It's a fast, hollow, and shallow wave that throws powerful tubes when the swell is up.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW) and fires best on a northwest (NW) swell, with any west in the swell producing the most powerful tubes. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind, though the point also holds up in the regular strong northwest winds. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-and-up wave, since the fast, hollow sections firing over shallow reef aren't a place to learn, and there are sea urchins to watch for. Crowds are rare, and the long lineup spreads out what few surfers are around. Use the paddle-out channel on the south side of the bay.
Access
You'll find La Speranza in a beautiful bay about 8 km south of Alghero, along the coastal route toward Bosa. There's a surf shop (Onda Blu) for wave info and gear, plus free roadside parking.
