Overview
La Ventana is a fun sand-bottomed beachbreak named after the hole in the cliff above it, and it comes into its own on the smaller days. The beach splits into two moods: east of the headland you get short, punchy peaks, while the west end holds a righthander that can connect into long rides once there is some size behind it. Both lefts and rights are on offer depending on where you set up.
When It Works
Swell arrives from southwest through southeast, and southwest is the direction that lines the sandbars up best. The break works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and moderate swells are what turn that western righthander into a proper long wall rather than a short section. It can be moderately consistent, so it will not be on every day, but the windows are worth watching for.
Wind and Tide
Look for north offshore wind to clean things up. The beach can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Forgiving sand bottom and manageable size make this a good spot to learn on, and the lineup is usually quiet, so there is room to find your own peak.
Access
Getting here is best done by boat. There is free parking, including roadside spots, if you are arriving by land.
