Overview
La Zurriola is a consistent urban beachbreak in the heart of San Sebastian. It breaks over sand with shifting peaks, lefts and rights, and can get good when the swell lines up. The eastern side often has the better sandbanks, with the right-hander there being the most consistent. At low tide, a left can peel toward the pier.
When It Works
It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It is best on small swells, and anything over about 5 ft can start closing out.
The main swell window is west to north, with northwest as the optimal direction. Autumn, especially September to November, is the main season.
Wind and Tide
The offshore wind is southeast. Low, mid, and high tide can all work, with a rising tide usually better.
Local Tips
This is a very busy town beach, so early sessions are a good idea. The lineup can feel competitive, but the overall atmosphere is neutral.
It suits intermediate surfers, with shortboards, funboards, longboards, and fish all fitting the wave depending on conditions. Paddling is usually not bad, but it gets tougher when there is significant swell.
Access
Access is simple because the beach is practically in the town centre. Parking is the hard part: expect metered roadside parking or expensive underground car parks, and in summer it can be almost impossible.
Facilities include restrooms, showers, lifeguards, and a surf school. The water can get dirty after rain, mainly from residential and stormwater runoff.
