Overview
Lagouira is a right-hand point that peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand, set in an abandoned ghost town out on the peninsula.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from southwest through north, with northwest the best direction, and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. On smaller days several right points break between Faux Cap Blanc and Cap Dubouchage; once the swell pushes past 4 ft (1.2 m), head further south, where the rights can run long, fast and flawless.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. It can work across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

This one suits intermediate surfers best.
Access
A visa sorted in advance is essential to surf the spots around Lagouira. Mauritania run the east/west military border crossing about 10 km (6 mi) north of the peninsula and Nouadhibou, though most maps show it running north/south.
