Las Tunas is a beachbreak set along a village of weathered beachside ranchos in El Salvador. The stretch has plenty of rocky beachbreaks plus a rivermouth that can shape up quality sand banks, and the waves break over sand with both lefts and rights on offer. If it is not doing much here, nearby Playa Torola has a similar setup worth checking.
When It Works
Las Tunas draws swell from the southwest through southeast, with southwest swell the best match. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving a decent working window across small to mid-sized days.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean things up. The bank can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The mellow beachbreak waves make this a friendly spot for beginners. Keep an eye out for rips, which can get strong, and be aware that the ever-changing rivermouth brings some pollution.
