Overview
Le Prado is a hip Marseille city beach that picks up the occasional wave between its seawalls and groynes over a sand bottom. You'll share the water with plenty of wave-sailors and bodyboarders, and there's some trash around, along with the stormwater pollution that comes with a big city. If you're after something more technical, la Verrerie nearby breaks over rocks.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southeast through south to west, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft, and you'll find both lefts and rights depending on the bank. Don't count on it every session, though: it's somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to wait for the setup to line up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean things up. Le Prado can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly spot, and it's just about always packed, so expect a very busy lineup when there's something to ride. For a bit more room, the adjacent Escale Borely tends to be quieter and suits beginners and longboarders looking to spread out.
Access
There are restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand. For parking, you've got paid parking, roadside spots, and a car park to choose from.
