Le VVF Surf Forecast Guide

Le VVF is a beach break spread along about half a kilometre of sand, breaking both left and right over a range of banks. On a good day it throws up sucky peaks or long, lined-up walls, with a popular short jetty peak peeling to the left in front of the crumbling cliffs below the lighthouse. It's a very consistent stretch, so there's usually a rideable bank somewhere along the beach.

When It Works

The banks come to life best on a northwest (NW) swell, though anything from west to north (W-N) will feed them. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, covering small, mellow days right through to properly sizeable surf. With such reliable form, you'll rarely paddle out to a flat lineup.

Wind and Tide

The workable offshore here is a southeast (SE) wind, and the beach sits nicely sheltered from any south wind. It breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Keep an eye out for the semi-submerged bunker at low tide.

Local Tips

This is intermediate-friendly surf, and the lineup gets very busy when it's on, so expect plenty of company on the better banks.

Access

A road running above the beach makes checking conditions quick and easy. Parking can usually be found at either end of the Promenade de la Chambre d'Amour or along Promenade des Sources behind the VVF Belambra buildings, with a mix of a free car park, paid parking, and roadside spots. Facilities are well covered, with restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop.
