Leça is a sand-bottomed beachbreak near the harbour, where the breakwall helps shape up good sandbars that peel both left and right. It's an approachable wave that suits beginners. Water quality is a real concern here, so factor that into your session.
When It Works
The bars pull in swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with a west (W) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Leça is a good barometer for the area too: if it's flat here, it's flat everywhere.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore, which holds the barrels open over those sandbars. The bank works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners. The lineup is only sometimes busy, usually with bodyboarders, and the heavy pollution is likely part of why it stays that way.
