Les Bourdaines Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Les Bourdaines is a sand-bottomed beach break in Seignosse, and probably the most popular and consistent spot in the area. Good banks form on either side of the access path, so there is almost always a left and right just south of the path along with multiple peaks running up towards Penon. Stable sandbanks have built this reputation over the years, often carving out a well-defined channel between the peaks with rippy inside sections. It is a regular contest site because there is nearly always something worth riding.

When It Works

The banks draw swell from west to north (W-N), with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It is a very consistent break that works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. Once the faces push past 8 ft, diagonal super rips can hold up the close-outs, so the smaller-to-mid end of that range tends to be the cleaner call.

Wind and Tide

Look for east (E) offshore wind to groom the peaks. It works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better bet. Keep in mind that dead high tide can be a struggle when the swell is small.

Local Tips

Bourdaines suits beginners, and it draws a crowd, so expect a very busy lineup when it is on. The Cream Cafe in the northern corner is a well-known local and surf industry hang out.

Access

Reaching the water is one of the shorter walks from car park to sand north of Hossegor. There is a car park with free parking plus roadside and restricted parking, though holiday apartments make summer spaces tight and the place tends to fill up by early afternoon. You will find restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, and a surf shop on hand, with access off the D79.
