Overview
Les Longchamps is a wide, sandy beachbreak and a friendly hub for surfers. When the banks line up they can serve hollow waves, though onshore mush is the more common find. The beach favours rights, and a spring incoming tide will jack up the wave heights.
When It Works
Breaking over sand, Les Longchamps draws swell from west through northwest, with northwest swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and is moderately consistent, so it holds worthwhile windows when a decent swell and clean banks come together. Both lefts and rights break here, but the rights are the pick.
Wind and Tide
Look for south offshore wind to clean things up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable wave that suits beginners finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. For a change of scenery, the nearby Garde-Guerin reefs get some push over their scattered rock sections on a moderate west swell, with any south wind blowing offshore. Out on the western headland, the Dame Jouanne ledge sucks and slams the rock shelf at low tide, a treacherous slab best left to the most competent surfers and the tight local crew.
Access
There is a car park with free parking, plus restrooms, showers, and camping. Access to Garde-Guerin is beside the golf course.
