Lighthouse is a challenging right-hand reef break that only really comes alive when the swell is big. It breaks under the same conditions as nearby P-Pass but is always bigger, with a west take-off and a north take-off, a long wall, and an incredible inside barrel section over super-shallow dead coral. On its day it draws easy comparisons to Sunset Beach in Hawaii.
When It Works
The reef picks up swell from west through north to northeast (W-N-NE), and north swell is the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and here bigger is genuinely better: on smaller days the reef can go dry at any tide, and nearby Middle Pass may be the better call instead. When the size is up it holds chunky swells and stays consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is the better call given how shallow the inside section runs.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, and the super-shallow inside barrel punishes mistakes once the surf gets big. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
