Lighthouse Southside is a lefthand point that breaks over boulders on the south side of Point Judith. On smaller days it shows three separate peaks, and as the swell builds the wall fills in the gaps between them and the ride gets noticeably longer. It is not a barreling wave, though a hollow section can stand up off the first peak. Expect a few short rights running into the rocks here and there.
When It Works
The point draws swell from east to south (E-S), and a south swell is the best match, lining up cleaner and pushing more power through the sections. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, and it stays consistent across that range. The bigger it gets, the longer the wall runs.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the north (N). In an offshore northeast wind, the first peak can throw a hollow section. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly left, and it tends to be quieter than the right-hand point next door. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
There is a car park with both free and paid parking. Watch the rock on the inside, which has a long steel bar sticking out of it.
