Overview
Lillsnäck Point is a right-hand reef break near Skellefteå on Sweden's Gulf of Bothnia coast. The wave peels right over an uneven reef and holds up well even when the swell turns choppy. It's a summer-only spot, since ice forms through winter and spring, so pack a 5/4 mm suit.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with a northeast swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The wave leans on a very strong northeast wind over 15 m/s to build the windswell that feeds the break.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest offshore wind to clean things up. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It's an approachable wave for beginners when it's breaking. If it isn't cooperating, other Gulf of Bothnia options include the south-facing beachbreaks at Salusand near Örnsköldsvik and the east-facing beach at Smitingen, Härnösand.
