Lockjoint surf guide

Lockjoint is a surf spot located halfway between the Pier and the Mole breakwater. Known for its super-hollow waves, this place attracts surfers looking for a challenge. However, it's a fickle spot, meaning the conditions can change quickly and you might not always find good surf. Itโ€™s definitely not for beginners, so you need to be confident in your skills before paddling out.

The best time to surf at Lockjoint is during low to mid tide. The waves here break over an uneven reef and can be experienced on both the left and right. It handles swell sizes from about 2ft (0.6m) up to a reasonable height. The optimal swell direction is from the Southwest, but you can also catch good waves with swells coming from the South and West. When it comes to wind, a Northeast breeze is preferred to really make the most of what Lockjoint has to offer.

If you decide to surf Lockjoint, be prepared for some backwash as the tide rises. This can make things a bit tricky, so knowing the tide patterns is important. Given the reputation of the spot and the skill level required, itโ€™s a good idea to keep an eye on the conditions before heading out.
