Loco is a left-hand point that faces due southwest, and it's the bigger, faster, gnarlier cousin of the other points nearby, which is where the Spanish name comes from. The local surf camp has also re-named it Turtles. The wave breaks over a mix of boulders and sand.
When It Works
Loco draws swell from the south through west (S-W), with south swell the best match. It pulls in plenty of swell, especially in the off season, and holds a consistent wave. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind, though the point sits a bit exposed to the wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Loco suits intermediate surfers, and it's the biggest, fastest of the local points, so expect a step up from the mellower spots. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on.
Access
The point is a half-hour hike from camp, where camping is available.
