Overview
Lolas is a left-hand point near Chacala that breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand. The reef is rocky and carries urchins, so it pays to be careful about where you put your feet. Getting there takes a boat ride from Chacala, and for most surfers the trip is worth it.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from south to west (S-W), and southwest (SW) swell is the best match for the setup. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there is plenty of room between a small day and a solid one. Waves show up moderately often rather than every session, which makes it worth watching the forecast for the windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up. The point can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Lolas suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable on a reef. Expect a busy lineup with a sharp edge to it, though the point does offer a few different take-off spots to spread people out.
Access
Access is by boat from Chacala only, and parking on shore is restricted.
