Long Point is a left-hand point that breaks over a rock ledge, and it earns its good reputation when the swell lines up. Expect ledgy lefts with hairy take-offs and fast walls, though there is plenty to work with once you are up and riding, it is a very rippable wave. It suits confident intermediate surfers.
When It Works
Long Point draws swell from southwest through southeast, with south swell the best match. A medium south swell is the one to drive for, delivering those ledgy lefts along the point. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and stays moderately consistent, so you can count on rideable windows without it firing every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean up the fast walls. The point favours the lower half of the tide, with low tide the optimal call and a rising tide generally better than a dropping one.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly wave, though the ledgy take-offs reward commitment once you drop in. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you can usually find space when it is breaking.
Access
Long Point sits on private farmland and access is tough. You will need permission and should treat the land with respect. Parking is restricted, so plan your approach ahead of time.
