Longbeach Drive is a sand-bottomed beach break near Wanganui that peels both left and right. It is an easygoing spot rather than a standout, so come for a fun surf rather than a world-class wave.
When It Works
The break draws swell from the south through to the west, and it lines up best on a southwest swell. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving a decent working range from small days up to a good size.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean up the faces. The bank favours high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call as the water fills in.
Local Tips
The gentle, forgiving waves make this a good option for beginners finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is working.
