Overview
Los Frailes is a large sandy bay with a left reef that's worth checking when a big southeast swell is running. The wave peels left over an uneven reef, making it a good option for intermediate surfers.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It can be inconsistent, so it rewards a bit of patience and a check when a solid swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers best. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
There's camping right by the bay, plus free parking.
